ACS Letter to Parents: End of School Year 2021
May 26, 2021
Dear ACS Families:
As this most unusual year comes to a close, I want to thank you again for your partnership in getting us to this point. I was in a superintendent’s meeting last week, and many were sharing stories about the students and staff they lost this year. I had to pause for a prayer of thanks. We have been so blessed! However, I also want to acknowledge that many of our employees have lost friends and family members this year- more than we’ve ever experienced in one year. I’m sure that many of you have as well. Please know that we are sorry for your loss, and we want to support you in any way we can.
At this time, we plan for the next school year to look “normal,” and masks will not be required. We will not offer remote learning at our traditional schools, and we look forward to having every student back in our schools. They have been missed!
We are working diligently to provide after-school and summer services to ensure that students have opportunities to master any standards they may have missed. Your children are so resilient, and we are very proud of them!
Many things had to look different this year, but I’m so pleased and proud that we were able to keep schools open all year. Our teachers, nurses, counselors, custodians, bus drivers, administrators and cafeteria workers are superheroes! Please take a moment to thank them for working so hard to keep everyone safe and learning.
Thank you for the kindness, grace and opportunities for collaboration you have extended to me this year. It is my honor to serve as your superintendent.
Superintendent, Athens City Schools
