  • First Class Pre K First Class Pre-K Registration Begins January 15 ACS First Class Pre-K registration is January 15-March 23 for the 2021-2022 school year. Children must be 4 on or before September 1, 2021 and live within Athens City limits to be eligible. The deadline to register is March 23. Assistance is available in Spanish at Central Office.   • Eagles Nest  Eagles Nest Pre-K Registration January 15-March 23 Registration for the Eagles Nest Pre-K Program at Athens Elementary for the 2021-2022 school year opens Friday, January 15. The application deadline is March 23.   • Beth Patton Beth Patton Named Superintendent of Schools Beth Patton was named Superintendent of Schools at the December 8, 2020 Board of Education meeting. An Athens native and graduate of Athens High School, Beth Patton has been part of the Athens City Schools team as an educator since 1991. She was a first, fourth and Title I teacher for many years before furthering her service as an administrator at the Board of Education central office. Click here to learn more.

  • Willie Moore New Athens High School Executive Principal We are pleased to announce that Mr. Willie Moore has been named the Executive Principal of AHS effective December 9, 2020. Mr. Moore brings more than 26 years of experience in education. Mr. Moore’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from The University of Alabama and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Alabama State University.   • Mikayla Reese  ACS welcomes new Mental Health Services Coordinator Athens City Schools (ACS) is pleased to announce an important new addition to the school system. Mikayla Reese is the first-ever Mental Health Services Coordinator (MHSC) for ACS. Reese is a licensed master social worker. In this new role, Reese will serve students and their families across the district by coordinating available services and resources to support mental health and wellness. Click here to learn more.

  • AHS Cheer Athens cheer teams compete for national titles The Athens Cheer Program is sending two teams of 58 student-athletes to the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida during February to compete for national titles.
