Hi! I'm Carey Matthews. I have been in education since 2000. I love teaching and working with children. I have a passion for special education and believe each child has something special to contribute in the classroom and to the community. I'm dual certified in special education and art education. I joined AIS in January 2021 and I'm proud to be a Golden Eagle!

My husband, Jereme, and I have been married for 21 years and have a wonderful 16 year old daughter, Lexa. I grew up in Huntsville, and I attended the University of Alabama and Florida State University.  I began my teaching career on the Space Coast in Melbourne, Florida, but we returned to North Alabama after the birth of our daughter to be closer to family.

I still have sand in my shoes and love to visit the beach as often as possible. I also love arts and crafts, scrapbooking, watching movies, and spending time with my family. I enjoy the outdoors and taking road trips. I'm a huge college football fan. In the fall you'll hear me cheer Roll Tide and Go Noles!
