Welcome to the AMS Library & Media Center

  • We are proud to be the "heart" of Athens Middle School where students feel welcome and empowered to become avid readers and 21st century learners. Athens City Schools is a 1:1 district where every student has access to an electronic device issued by the school system. Students visit the library with their English Language Arts teacher every other week. They are also allowed to come to the library with teacher permission anytime throughout the day.

Along with a lifelong love of reading and learning nurtured by the library during their time at AMS, students will demonstrate information literacy. Through active and creative pursuit, students will exercise their abilities in reading to access information in a variety of formats and from multiple sources presenting different perspectives. Students will critically evaluate this information to construct meaning and form opinions that reflect the time honored spirit of the Athens tradition of excellence.

Our library’s media specialist Mrs. Leslie Batts collaborates with classroom teachers and offers instruction to students in the research process.  Individuals and small groups of students may come to the library at any time for reading, research and study.

At AMS, we fundamentally believe in supporting and preparing every student for the best and brightest future possible. We are committed to serving each student in a way that honors our values and mission to deliver a high-quality educational experience in an space that promotes community connection and socially responsible citizenship. It is great to be a Golden Eagle, and we support and prepare our students to soar high.
