Dr. Thomasena Garner

Hello! I am Dr. Thomasena Garner and I will serve as the high school science instructor and ninth grade homeroom advisor (I-Z) for Athens Renaissance School.

I am a native of Huntsville, Alabama and a fourth generation educator. Although I started college in pursuit of a degree in the area of biomedical science, I changed my major to accomplish what had been instilled in me since birth. I love the path that I have chosen because I am constantly learning and growing. As the years progress, I hope to continue learning new and innovative ways of delivering educational experiences for students.

This is my 16th year in education. Prior to Athens City, I worked in Madison City where I taught middle school science, STEM, Python coding, and Project Lead The Way courses. During that time, I had the pleasure of coaching for over 13 years. As the head dance team coach, my teams won numerous awards including multiple state, regional, and national titles. Also during that time, I was awarded Liberty Middle School Teacher of the Year, Madison City Schools Secondary Teacher of the Year, Alabama District Eight Secondary Teacher of the Year, and inducted into the Jacksonville State University Teacher Hall of Fame.

I am excited to join the Athens Renaissance team. I look forward to growing with the students of ARS and being a part of their educational journey.
