    ATHENS CITY SCHOOLS WILL POST ON THE ACS FACEBOOK PAGE IF THE STORM SHELTER WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.


    WHEN SEVERE WEATHER IS EXPECTED
    During school hours or school-related activities, the storm shelter facility WILL NOT be open to the public. During severe weather conditions outside of school hours or school-related activities, the AHS may open its doors when a tornado watch is issued for Limestone County. If the shelter is open to the public, the notification will be posted to the ACS Facebook Page.

    SAFE ROOM RULES (STRICTLY ENFORCED)

    • No fire arms or weapons permitted.
    • No smoking or vaping allowed.
    • No alcoholic beverages or drugs allowed.
    • No outside food or drinks allowed.
    • No pets allowed, with the exception of Certified Service Animals (registration documents are required).
    • Children must be supervised at all times.
    • Be respectful of others.
     
    ABOUT THE SAFE ROOM
    The Athens High School school and community safe room opened in 2019. The shelter has the capacity to hold 1,500 people. During school hours and/or school-related events, the storm shelter facility WILL NOT be open to the public. During severe weather conditions outside of school hours or school-related activities, the AHS may open its doors when a tornado watch is issued for Limestone County. If the shelter is open to the public, the notification will be posted to the ACS Facebook Page. The safe room is equipped with first aid kits, therapy kits, restrooms, a water fountain and a television.
