Mr. Shannon Coppell

Hi!  I'm excited to be joining the Golden Eagle family this year!  This summer, my wife and I moved to Athens from Queen Creek, Arizona and truly love this area!  Originally from Danville, Illinois, I'm happy to be closer to my family in the midwest.  We have two daughters who both got married last year.  Allie lives in Tucson, Arizona and Courtney lives in Memphis, Tennessee.  This past April, we became grandparents and are obsessed with our granddaughter, Ryan.

I attended Eastern Illinois University on an Athletic Scholarship for Baseball and graduated in 1990.  After being selected in the 15th round of the 1988 MLB Draft, I played two years in the SF Giants organization.  I began my teaching career and have been coaching sports including baseball, football, wrestling and girls' softball since the fall of 1990.  In 2006, I earned my Master's Degree from the University of Phoenix in Adult Education.

I am excited to be a part of the Athens Middle School Football Coaching Staff and also the Athens High School Baseball Coaching Staff.  When I'm not teaching or coaching, you might find me exploring the awesome local lakes chasing bass.
