Steven Porter

Steven Porter received his Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of North Alabama in 1996. While there, he studied with Dr. James K. Simpson, Dr. Rick Mason, Dr. Lloyd Jones, Dr. Edd Jones, and Dr. Tom Ed Moore.

Mr. Porter has been involved with music education and performance for over  21 years, teaching all levels of music from beginning to pre-professional to include theory, stage performance, jazz, improvisation, blues and rock. Previously, the Band Director for Hanceville Schools, where he began a Jazz/Rock/Blues band of high school students, composed/arranged for the Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Junior High Bands. Mr. Porter also taught survey of Music Industry, Drumline, and brought the choir membership to over 50 members.   

Mr. Porter has performed with the Nashville Blues Society and the Classic Blues Jam. He has performed sax/keys/vocals with various rock, blues, and country bands in West and Middle Tennessee including Bluesberry Jam and Shiloh.


Mr. Porter will be teaching Theatre, Music Appreciation, Marching/Symphonic/Jazz Bands. He will also offer after school ensembles: Woodwind Quintet, Saxophone Quartet, Brass Quintet and Percussion Ensemble.
