Welcome to First Grade!

  I'm so excited to have been selected as your child's first grade teacher.  This year will be full of excitement as your child learns many valuable tools to read, write and expand their mathematical thinking.  Inquiry learning will also take place through the use of our project-based units.  This is an important year that will help create a firm foundation for your child’s education.  I look forward to this year and making memories with your loved ones.

  I’m an Athens High School and Athens State University graduate.  I earned a B. S. in Elementary Education in 2004.  In 2010, I earned a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of West Alabama. I enjoy continuing my learning by trying new ideas in the class each year.  I love educational research and utilizing best practices that can be implemented in the classroom for optimal student growth. Through my teaching career, I’ve taught 1st grade for 15 years, 2nd grade for 2 years and kindergarten for 1 year. 

  I’ve been married for 23 years and together we have a daughter, Ally, and son, Brett. My family enjoys traveling, water sports and fishing.
