Dr. Chris Paysinger
Hi, I'm Chris Paysinger, teacher at the Athens Creative Exchange.
I live in Downtown Athens Alabama in the c. 1825 Mason-Looney Home that is perpetually under renovation. I love everything that is old, good barbeque, and a roadtrip (that involves old stuff and barbeque.) My wife is Director of Hospice of Limestone County. My daughter Avery is a student in Athens City Schools. I love teaching, and have taught history for 20 years.
The Exchange is a project based learning academy. The intention is to get students out of traditional classrooms and engaged in real, hands-on projects. Student choice and interest will drive the scope and goals of the project. We will partner with local businesses, organizations, and schools to develop, facilitate, and implement various community activities.
There will also be a focus on business development. Athens City Schools is committed to graduating students who are college and career ready. The Exchange will partner with local business owners and professionals to provide education in regard to accounting, business development, legal practices, markeing and branding, and management and leadership.
History and language will be taught within the context of the projects. Students will do research and writing that reflects the projects in which they are engaged. Two business class electives are also available through online learning that will count toward class credit.
The Exchange will follow the calender of the Athens Renaissance School. Athens High School students are welcome to participate. This program is designed to be flexible to student's needs and interests.
Athens City Schools policy and procedures will be followed.
The Exchange will meet in Downtown Athens in a beautiful historic building.
