Hello Athens High School students! I am looking forward to meeting all of you in the 2022-2023 school year. My teaching responsibilities include Beginning Kinesology and Strength and Conditioning. I am also the junior varsity volleyball coach. I love fitness and athletics!!
I was born in Oxford, Mississippi on December 23. In 1989, my family moved to Centre, Alabama. I attended Cherokee County High School and graduated in 2000. I earned a scholarship to Northwest Shoals Community College where I played two years of college volleyball and one year of college basketball. In 2002, I finished out my volleyball career at Freed Hardeman University, and graduated with a degree in Exercise Science. I met my husband, Travis Barnes, during my junior year of college and we married in October of 2004. Travis and I lived in Athens, Georgia for 10 months before moving back to my hometown of Centre, Alabama. We both taught and coached in Cherokee County for 8 years. During those 8 years, we had two beautiful daughters, Charlie and Cora. I also earned my Masters and Educational Specialist degrees, in Physical Education, through Jacksonville State University. In June 2012, we moved our family to Athens. This will be my 10th year teaching in Athens City Schools.
My favorite color is red and my favorite food is Mexican. My hobbies include working out and reading. My favorite season is fall. I also enjoy antiques and fashion.
See you soon!
