I am a fourth year kindergarten teacher at SPARK Academy. I graduated from Athens State University in December 2014 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a minor in Educational Technology. After working as a Title I coach for a semester at Blue Springs Elementary, I was hired as a kindergarten teacher at Julian Newman Elementary and then transferred to SPARK in August 2016. I have been awarded “Outstanding Educator of the Year” from Athens State University, presented at FETC, AETC, NATC, Athens State University’s TEACH conference, and local ed camps. I had the privilege of attending Space Academy for Educators in Summer 2016 and made me realize what an amazing resource we have right in our own backyard. I have been a Seesaw ambassador since May 2016 and use it daily in my classroom.
I love teaching kindergarten! They amaze me every day and I enjoy seeing the sparks go off in their minds when they learn something new. I believe students have a genuine passion to learn and it is up to teachers to help develp those passions. Not all students are the same in my class and I treat each child as an individual and guide them to make good choices. I look forward to getting to know your child this school year.
I moved to Athens, AL when I was in 5th grade where I attended Cowart. I graduated from Athens High School in 2000. I am married to Josh Trout and have two boys, Aidan (9th grade) and John Bryan (5th grade). On Friday nights, you will find me running behind the band taking pictures as historian of the AHS band. When I am not at school, I spend time with my family, volunteer with Cub Scouts, take Zumba classes and love anything Disney!
