Mrs. Lorraine Duncan
My name is Lorraine Duncan and I have been teaching in the Athens City School System for 17 years. I have been married to my husband, Victor, for 37 years. We have three wonderful daughters, 2 awesome son-in-laws, and 3 precious granddaughters. Our oldest, Becca, went to the University of Alabama, is married to Nick Mealer, and they have one daughter, Abigail. Abigail is in the 6th grade at AIS and is on the Athens Swim Team. Our middle daughter, Paige, went to UNA, is married to Seth Vickers, and they have 2 precious daughters, Scarlett Grace and Saylor Gail. Scarlett will be 4 years old in November and attends Little Tots Preschool. Saylor Gail is our Guardian Angel in Heaven. She lives with the Lord, but is still present everyday in our hearts and minds. Our yougest daughter, Anna Grace, attended Auburn University and Calhoun College. She is enjoying life after high school, traveling, taking classes, and working a part time job at Athens Utilities. All three of our girls graduated from Athens High School, cheering them on as cheerleaders during their high school years. It's great to be a "Golden Eagle."
I was born in Orange County, California, but moved to Athens when I was about 7 years old. I graduated from Clements High School, attended Calhoun College, and Athens State University. I received my BS in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Athens State University and I am currently enrolled in graduate classes at the University of West Alabama, pursuing my masters in Elementary Education. Hopefully that will be completed by the summer of 2018.
I have several passions in my life, first and foremost, God and family. My family attends church at Athens First United Methodist Church. Over the years, my husband and I have worn many different hats there. We were youth directors, counselors, Sunday school teachers, and helped with VBS. We love our church family! I recently went on an Emmaus Walk and it was one of the most humbling, amazing experiences I have been through. My other passions are teaching children, rescuing animals, and saving the Earth, one water bottle at a time! I have been nicknamed the "Recycling Queen" by my family and coworkers, and yes, I will dig through a trashcan to collect bottles and cans!
It is true what they say, "Southern girls love their football! I am as big of an AUBURN fan as you will find! I love me some Auburn Tigers and you will find me on the Plains whenever I can get there. In Auburn, "War Eagle" is not just words, it is a greeting! Auburn is "my happy place" ( oh, and the beach). Summer is to beach as Auburn is to football!!
My favorite times are spent with my family. All of my girls live within a 3 mile range, so we travel together, eat Sunday dinners together, tailgate together, play together and pray together. Memories are being made every day and I can't imagine it being any other way. Cherish the time you have with family and friends.
I feel so blessed to be able to do something so meaningful that can impact the lives of others. Teaching your children is not only an honor, but a priviledge. I have always known I wanted to teach, I just took the long road there. Teaching is my second career, but my first love!
