Greetings and salutations! My name is Melinda Simpkins and I am the lead teacher of the Alabama 1st Class Pre-K, Classroom 2. I am very excited and honored to be a member of the Athens Elemetary faculty!

My name is Melinda Simpkins and I am a member of the Athens State University’s Spring Graduating class of 2017.  While at ASU, I majored in Early Childhood Education and graduated summa cum laude. In my private life, I like to travel. So far, my favorite destination has been Ireland; though I am excited to add more stamps to my passport. I enjoy visiting the theater or the cinema any chance I get, which is understandable as I also hold associate’s degrees in English and Theatre. This background comes in handy when reading aloud enthusiastically to my Pre-K students! Some people might consider me “quirky” as I’ve participated in activities such as a Guinness Book of World Record Breaking event, fan conventions for TV and cinema, and have won costume contests based on a few of my favorite book characters. Always putting God first, I try to live my life walking on the road “less traveled by”.  My family and four-legged fur baby mean the world to me, I strive every day to make them proud.
