Camp Hope is a free, one day camp for kids and teens who have experienced the death of a loved one.
The loss doesn’t have to be a recent loss (remember there is no time limit on grief) or a Hospice related loss (all losses are different and we are here to serve all kinds). Your child will be paired with a trained volunteer for the day, providing security to them and assisting them to each activity. The buddy volunteer’s sole goal for the day is the same as the Hospice staff: to equip these campers to have an understanding of their feelings and how to better deal with the waves of emotion that grief brings. We also love to have a good time and show these brave campers that having fun is okay!! Even if you are dealing with loss.
Who is invited? Any child aged 5 to 15 (there are separate activities for our teen campers)
When is Camp Hope? Tuesday, July 14, 2020. Camp is from 9 am til 2:30 Where is it? Camp Helen, located at 14477 Baptist Camp Road Harvest, Alabama
Events and activities include : making new friends, sharing feelings in a safe way, creating crafts to take home, crafting a memory book to help remember their loved one, swimming, fishing, having story time, face painting, playing on the water slide and so much more!!
Lunch and tee shirt are provided. Family members are all invited back at the close of camp to celebrate the day with us. Your camper will be ready to share all about their day and we hope that they leave camp with a new outlook. It is not our intent to dredge feelings of sadness with our campers, but rather show them that there are others dealing with similar feelings and that it is okay to move on with the changing world, even though they are dealing with grief and loss.
Completed Registration is necessary by the deadline: Monday, July 6, 2020. Due to food, space and volunteer limitations, we will not be able to accept any late registrations.
Email Emily Sandlin, Camp Coordinator (ekphsandlin@yahoo.com) for information on registration.
Volunteer information: Anyone wishing to volunteer at Camp Hope must attend a volunteer training and go through a background check for the safety of our campers. Your mission for the day of Camp will be to make it the best day ever for your camper.
