Alabama Literacy Act
The Alabama Legislature passed the Alabama Literacy Act in 2019 in an effort to improve the reading outcomes of public school students and help to ensure that every student meets grade-level reading standards. Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, 3rd-grade students must demonstrate proficient reading skills for promotion to 4th grade.
An important predictor in academic success is the ability to read by the end of 3rd grade. Families are essential in encouraging academic achievement, growth, and success!
