  • Parents,

With the flu and flu like symptoms causing large amounts of extended absences for ams students, we have suspended all normal request procedures and requirements for E-Learning days until further notice. All students 6-8 are eligible for E-Learning automatically and may work from home by accessing their Canvas, Google Classroom, or through email communications with their teacher. This waiver is retroactive to last week for any students under doctors care for flu or flu like symptoms and for any student under parental care for flu and/or flu like symptoms. It will remain in effect for each student until they are symptom and fever free for more than 24 hours and return to school.

In addition, automatic student E-Learning days will NOT count against a student's exam exemptions status. We hope this helps ease their worry and anxiety as it relates to missed class time while helping control the gap of missed learning experiences.

    Together, we will overcome!

  • Dear Athens Middle School Community,

The first few months of the 2018-2019 year has gone by quickly, and it has been both an exciting and a sad time. Parents have met with their children’s teachers during parent conferences at the beginning school. Our school has completed our first quarter and are well into our second.

As we reflect on the many things for which we are thankful, I want to take this opportunity to share just a few of them with you: We are thankful for our students who come to school every day ready to learn – they give us all a daily reminder of what is important and why we are here. We are thankful for the support of the parents in creating an outstanding partnership for our students. We are thankful for the teachers, assistants, nurses, bus drivers, secretaries, lunchroom staff, support staff, custodians and administrators who really care about student learning and have the best interests of our students at heart. We are also thankful for our volunteers who enthusiastically contribute so much to our school.

In these most difficult and challenging times, we see dedicated and tireless individuals going above and beyond to make sure that great things happen in our school. They do make a difference, and the children, in their own individual ways, benefit from those efforts.

Most importantly, we are thankful for the parents that have kept the faith in us. They continue to share their most valuable possession with us and—in most cases— work hard and advocate to be a partner in their children’s education, safety and well-being. For this, we are ever so thankful.

I would like to wish all of you and your families a happy, healthy and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!

    Sincerely,

    Rick Carter
