Welcome to our website! I hope as you visit these pages, you will get the essence of what makes Athens Elementary School such a special place. We are a community of learners who truly care about each other.

Although I am new to Athens Elementary School and the Athens City School system this year, I have been a school administrator for many years. For thirty years I lived, worked, and raised my three children in the Florence area. My career began in the 1980’s at Riverhill School as a fourth grade teacher. I taught sixth grade at Harlan Elementary School for 9 years and fourth grade for one before accepting a position as principal of Riverhill School for 12 years. In 2009, I became the principal of Phil Campbell High School. In 2012, an EF-5 tornado hit and destroyed the school. I was able to participate in the recovery and rebuilding of that campus before moving to Madison County to accept a job as an assistant principal at Sparkman High School. That next year, Madison County hired me to open their new intermediate school, Moores Mill, as its principal. In 2015, I left the United States and lived in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where I was the elementary principal of Collegiate American School. Now, I am so happy to return home to north Alabama and join the staff at Athens Elementary.

Each of my degrees came from the University of North Alabama where my father was a marketing professor. Before I started my family, I obtained my Bachelor’s degree (1983) in elementary education. When my children were young, I got a Masters’ (1990) degree in elementary education and a second Masters’ degree (1997) in School Administration. And then, when my children got much older, I obtained my Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Instructional Leadership in 2014.

I love to travel, read, and spend time with my family and friends. When travelling, I like to try different foods from the places I visit and tour the local attractions. My family loves to play games and sports. We are always competing with each other whether it’s to see how long we can keep a balloon in the air without touching the ground or a game of Bocce ball in the sand – we play hard! I also like to laugh. Kids make me smile. I just enjoy being with them – watching them learn, grow, and think!
