I believe the Athens City School System embraces the responsibility of providing our city with its future leaders. It is within our Athens City Schools that students learn the skills needed to continue their education, enter the workforce, and become productive citizens.

Alabama students are assessed using a variety of state mandated standardized assessments. The following state assessments are given in Athens City Schools:


  • ACT QualityCore End-of-Course Tests - English 10 and Algebra 1 
    • ACT QualityCore is a research-based system designed to help schools better prepare all students for college and workforce training.  The system is designed to help students stay on track in English and Algebra.

  • ACCESS for ELLs
    • ACCESS for ELLs is an English language proficiency assessment for students in Grades K-12 who are classified as English learners (ELs). 


  • AAA (Alabama Alternate Assessment)
    • AAA is administered to students with significant cognitive disabilities working on the Alabama Extended Standards in the areas of reading, English language arts, mathematics, and science.
