• Brookhill Elementary School was selected by Redbook magazine as one of  “America’s Best Schools”.
  
  
• Athens Middle School is one of four middle schools in Alabama to participate in the 21^st Century Learning Initiative co-sponsored by Microsoft and Alabama Best Practices Center.
  
  
• Julian Newman Elementary received the President’s National School of Excellence Award.
  
  
• In the past five years eight students named as National Merit Scholarship Finalist, Semi-Finalist, or Commended Student.
  
  
• Athens High School Technology Student Association received the National Program of the Year Award.
  
  
• Eleven Athens City teachers achieve National Board Certification.
